Join Our Volunteer Team

Volunteers are the lifeblood of VKB. Alongside generous private donations, our volunteers' dedication, time, and energy make our work possible. We are currently looking to expand our team of volunteers.
 

Important Information for Volunteers

  • Age Requirement: All shelter volunteers must be 18 years of age or have parental consent.
     

  • Waiver and Awareness: All volunteers must sign a waiver and understand that VKB provides homes to dogs who might otherwise be euthanized, which means some dogs at the shelter are highly reactive or have complex histories. For this reason, small children are not allowed.

Transportation

  • Responsibilities: Collecting and delivering donations, vet runs, and rescuing animals.
     

  • Requirements: If you have a car and can occasionally help, we will add you to a WhatsApp group to coordinate tasks. The responsibility is shared among many to prevent overburdening.
     

Administration

  • Responsibilities: Helping with paperwork and organizing dog records.
     

  • Requirements: An organized self-starter, committing a few hours a week under the guidance of a team leader.
     

Accounting Advice

  • Responsibilities: Providing occasional advice to ensure cost-effective and straightforward financial management.
     

  • Requirements: Experienced accountants who can offer expertise as needed.
     

Kennel Volunteers

  • Responsibilities: Walking and bathing dogs, cleaning kennels and food bowls.
     

  • Requirements: Shifts last around 4-5 hours and occur every day, rain or shine. We welcome volunteers whether you can join us once a month, once a week, or daily.
     

Translation

  • Responsibilities: Translating social media posts and fundraising materials.
     

  • Requirements: Bilingual individuals who can join a WhatsApp group to assist with translations when needed. Tasks are shared widely to distribute responsibility.

Team Building and Group Tours

Do you represent a business, school, or group looking to give back to shelter dogs in Hong Kong? Seeking a team-building experience that helps pets in need? VKB’s Community Outreach program offers a fantastic way for groups to make a meaningful impact through hands-on projects at our facility, showcasing the dedication involved in local animal rescue work.

How Your Contribution Helps

Your group’s financial contribution will support the resources needed to host your visit and help us continue providing essential services such as vaccinations, desexing operations, preventative medications, veterinary care, food, and supplies for the animals. As a private, volunteer-operated organization, we rely on the generosity of our community. The funds generated through these volunteer experiences directly support our life-saving work.

Benefits and What to Expect

  • Team Building Opportunity: One on-site group volunteer session for up to 10 team members.

​

  • Introduction and Tour: Learn about VKB and tour our facility.

​

  • Hands-On Projects: Engage in activities like creating enrichment toys and treats, deep cleaning, dog walking, property/trail maintenance, and sorting donations.

​

  • Social Interaction: Spend time socializing with dogs that will benefit from your group’s efforts.

​

  • Recognition: Receive a social media shout-out with a group photo and company tag on our platforms, reaching over 10k followers.

Important Details

  • Group Size: Accommodates up to 10 people per shift. For larger groups, please contact us to discuss possibilities.

​

  • Fee: HKD 1000 per person. Exceptions can be made for nonprofit organizations and Scouts.

​

  • Schedule: Group days are held from 10 am-2 pm.

​

  • Age Requirement: All participants must be at least 18 years old and willing to sign a liability and photography waiver.

​
