ABOUT VKB

Villa Kunterbunt, meaning House of Variety in German, rescues and re-homes pets (mainly dogs) of all breeds, ages, and health concerns. Founded by Okka Scherer, who has over 20 years of experience in animal rescue, the shelter is operated by her, along with a group of committed volunteers, and funded entirely by donations and fundraising efforts, like the donation reward items listed on this website.

Many of the dogs that we care for at VKB are brought to us when they are in need of expensive medical care or intensive behavioural training. At times it can be heartbreaking and discouraging, but we find solace in knowing we provide a safe place with open doors for dogs that would otherwise potentially have nowhere to go.

Rescued dogs are microchipped, heartworm tested, and vaccinated by a veterinarian, who also gives them a basic health check and provides VKB with an estimate of their age. The dogs are desexed (if required) and given any additional veterinary treatment to return them to good health. All of the rescued dogs are then cared for, awaiting adoption into a permanent, loving, carefully matched home.

If you are interested in learning more about the animals up for adoption through VKB please visit our social media pages. If you are ready to adopt a pet and have seen an animal you would like to know more about, please fill out the adoption questionnaire.
