About Villa Kunterbunt

โ€‹

Villa Kunterbunt (VKB), meaning "House of Variety" in German, is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming pets, primarily dogs, of all breeds, ages, and health conditions. Founded by Okka Scherer, who has over 20 years of experience in animal rescue, VKB operates with the help of a dedicated group of volunteers and is funded entirely by donations and fundraising efforts.

Many of the dogs in our care arrive with significant medical needs or require intensive behavioural training. While this work can be heartbreaking and discouraging at times, we take solace in knowing that VKB provides a safe haven for dogs that might otherwise have nowhere to go.

Our rescued dogs are microchipped, heartworm tested, vaccinated, and given a thorough health check. They are desexed (if needed) and receive any additional veterinary treatment required to restore them to good health. Once rehabilitated, these dogs are cared for at VKB until they find their permanent, loving, and carefully matched homes. Some dogs, however, stay with us forever.

VKB is supported by approximately 40 part-time volunteers who assist when they can and 15 full-time volunteers who adhere to regular schedules. These dedicated individuals manage the dogs, the kennel, volunteer coordination, administration, marketing, vet trips, project management, and fundraising. Our commitment to animal care is unwavering, continuing around the clock, regardless of extreme weather or cultural holidays.
